Why Should You Be Setting Goals For Yourself?

woman leaning on a tree, holding a bookAre you the kind of person who likes setting goals for yourself?

Nope.

Do you write down your goals?

Now you are pushing it!

A goal that is not written down is just a dream.

Yes, it is great to have dreams but to action those dreams you need to make them goals.

Setting Real Goals

Many people think goal setting is overrated, but the truth is – setting up goals for yourself can have huge benefits when done correctly.

Aim for the moon and even if you miss you will end up in the stars.

Setting a goal is stage 1, writing it down is stage 2, actioning it is stage 3.

So, what are you waiting for?

Here’s a couple of reasons why making goals can really move the needle for you

Generates Accountability

When you set goals and achieve these goals, you feel a sense of accomplishment. Break your larger goals into smaller ones so that you can start achieving right away. Only you can achieve your own goals, and you will feel that boost of energy when you make those steps towards them.

This will hold you accountable for your own actions, and when you hold yourself accountable, you’re saying to yourself “I’m a priority’.

Reduces Stress

For many, stress is a huge factor in their lives. Setting up goals for yourself is a great way to manage your time, make better choices and in turn – reduce your stress.

• Should you go for a promotion at work?
• How does that line up with your own goals you have set?

Using your goals and aligning them with things going on in your life can help make those choices so much easier.

Help You to Combat Procrastination

The first step in creating goals for yourself is thinking of the big picture.

  • Is there something you want to do in the next 1/ 2/ 5 years?

Once you have those, you can start to work backwards and break down how you’re going to achieve these. Think about what you can do in the next year, next month, next week and even today, to start making those steps towards your big picture goal.
